This policy explains what data PianoSkillBoost collects, what we use it for and how you can ask for it to be deleted. The data controller is Jonathan Freire (Ecuador). For any privacy question, email jonathancuento@gmail.com.
What this covers
- The web app: app.pianoskillboost.com.
- The Android app “PianoSkillBoost” (package
com.pianoskillboost.app). - This website: pianoskillboost.com.
Using it without an account
You can use PianoSkillBoost without signing in. If you do, we don't store any of your data on our servers.
Google account (optional)
If you sign in with Google, we receive and store:
- your email address;
- your name;
- your profile picture (the image address Google gives us);
- your preferred app language.
Sign-in is handled by Supabase, our authentication and database provider. We never receive or store your Google password.
Practice statistics (account only)
If you have an account, we store the following with it:
- for each day you practice: the date and how many chords or notes you got right out of the total;
- a summary: your current streak, your longest streak, your total days practiced and the date you last practiced.
We only use this to show you your progress and streak. It is not used for ads.
Microphone (Audio mode only)
- If you choose “Audio” mode, the app asks for permission to use the microphone.
- The audio is streamed in real time to our note-detection service (hosted on Fly.io) to recognise which notes you play.
- The audio is processed on the fly and is not stored.
- If you don't use Audio mode, the app doesn't use the microphone.
MIDI keyboard over USB or Bluetooth (Android app)
- The app asks for Bluetooth permissions only to find and connect MIDI keyboards.
- The app does not use Bluetooth to determine your location.
- The notes you play on your keyboard stay on your device.
MIDI files and the song library
MIDI files you open in the app are processed on your own device and are not sent to our servers. Songs in the library are downloaded from our server, but downloading them doesn't send any of your data.
Preferences stored on your device
The Android app stores settings on your phone such as language, theme, clefs, notation, what you are practicing and the last Bluetooth keyboard you used. These settings never leave your device and are deleted when you uninstall the app.
Analytics and cookies on the web
The web app and this website use Google Analytics for anonymous, aggregated usage statistics (for example, which pages are visited and what type of device is used). Google Analytics uses cookies.
This website also stores a cookie (psb_lang) to remember the language you picked.
The Android app does not include any analytics.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data.
- We don't show ads.
- We don't share your data with third parties for marketing.
Service providers
We only share data with the providers that make the service work, and only for that purpose:
- Supabase: sign-in and database (your account and statistics).
- Google: Google sign-in and Google Analytics (web only).
- Fly.io: the microphone note-detection service.
- Vercel: website hosting.
Security
All communication is encrypted (HTTPS / WSS). Database access rules ensure each user can only read and change their own data.
How long we keep data
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. When you delete it, the data is erased. See how in Delete your account.
Children
PianoSkillBoost is intended for people aged 13 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child under 13 has given us their data, email jonathancuento@gmail.com and we will delete it.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete your data by emailing jonathancuento@gmail.com.
Depending on where you live, applicable law (for example, the GDPR if you are in the European Union) may give you other rights over your data. You can exercise them by emailing the same address.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the “Last updated” date at the top. If the change is significant, we'll let you know in the app.
